Description
Located in the town of Montclair, New Jersey, the 5.8 acre Van Vleck House and Garden is a public garden with over 130 years of history. Known as a green oasis within the community, the garden features a series of formal and informal spaces that are planted with unusual trees, specimen Chinese wisteria, and many ericaceous plant species, including flowering rhododencron hybrids that were developed by Howard Van Vleck in the mid-twentieth century. On this site lived three generations of the Van Vleck family. In 1993, the Howard Van Vleck heirs donated the property to the Montclair Foundation. The Montclair Foundation is a community foundation that was established in 1979 for the purpose of supporting Montclair-based non-profit organizations.
