Description

Good Shepherd Healing Ministries Horse Rescue at Smoke Tree Farms in Apache Junction, AZ was started in 2011. Without realizing it, I would find myself at an auction saving horses from going to slaughter. I bring them home and rehabilate them with a healthy diet, vet care if needed, and daily hands on contact from volunteers and staff here at the facility, our goal being to rehome them into a caring situation where they will be healthy and happy. We have also had horses surrendered to us because people can no longer care for them. Most of the horses have been success stories but we have also had some sad stories as you will see on the 'Rescues' page on this website.

We have volunteers from all aspects of life. Some are veterans who find a certain amount of peace working with abused and neglected horses. There are also special needs children to come, visit and spend time with our blind pony Angel Eyes or Ike, our pony with a joint disease. We also have children that come just to help and be around the horses or maybe go for a horseback ride for the very first time. We have a great group of volunteers but are always needing more! We also have an adoption or sponsorship program.
