Mission Statement

Take Stock in Children, Inc. is a nonprofit organization established in 1995. Operating in every county throughout Florida, our mission is to break the cycle of poverty for low-income, academically qualified students by providing them opportunities for a post-secondary education. We offer college scholarships to students, provide caring volunteer mentors, and instill hope for a better life. Our comprehensive services begin in middle school, continue through high school, and includes students' transition into college and career.

The goal of Take Stock in Children is to continue to reduce the number of high school drop-outs and to increase the number of students who finish college and enter the workforce successfully.

Currently, our Alachua County Take Stock in Children office has 330 scholars in the program in every middle school and high school in the County. We have 247 high school graduates from our Alachua County program.

Our impact acorss Florida:

  • 67 Florida counties
  • 45 local programs
  • 896 middle and high schools
  • 40 colleges and universities
  • 8,200 mentors
  • 24,000 students

We invite you to become part of our movement to end poverty through education. Consider mentoring a child - at a time as convinient as your lunch break.

You can change a life over lunch!

This is the perfect organization that will allow you the opportunity to mentor young men and women who are high school aged and even junior high. Through this program, we can give back to our community while providing hope and mentorship to our mentorees.
