Mission Statement

Voices Rising is a women's chorus, founded upon feminist principles of community, inclusivity, activism and education. We sing together to give voice to our lives, identities and beliefs, and to celebrate the diverse lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered and women's communities in and around Boston. Raising our voices in joy and solidarity, we contribute to the growing tradition of the women's choral movement. Through our music, we strengthen ourselves and serve our community's history, present needs and future possibilities.

Description

Voices Rising was born in February 2004 in a living room full of women who wanted to sing together. We were fortunate to have singers in all vocal ranges, lots of enthusiasm, vision, and many willing people to do the work of starting a new chorus. To our delight, Leora Zimmer agreed to be our Artistic Director and we began rehearsing on February 17. Temple Israel in Boston has provided us with a welcoming home, and we are grateful to them for their support.
