Mission Statement

Toolworks, in partnership with people with disabilities, is a human service agency dedicated to providing the tools and resources that promote independence, equality, and personal satisfaction.

Toolworks was established in 1975 as a private, nonprofit corporation serving individuals in the San Francisco Bay Area by:

  • Providing services that increase economic and social opportunities for people with disabilities
  • Creating programs driven by client choice
  • Encouraging personal growth to increase one's potential
  • Educating the community to value the strengths and abilities of each individual

Toolworks has been self-supporting from its inception, relying primarily upon funding from the operation of service contracts staffed by its trainees. Other funding sources are training fees by referring agencies and occasional grants from public and private sources. The agency is accredited by the Commission on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).

Toolworks serves adults throughout the Bay Area, providing client driven services that increase economic and social opportunities for people with disabilities. An innovative forerunner in the community, we are proud of our clients' achievements and are pleased to have played a key role in their success.

Several Volunteer Opportunities Currently Open:

Our seniors come from many parts of the world and are very interesting conversationists. Not to mention they are excellent cooks and love to showcase their specialties. Adopt A Grandparent today!

Community Garden: We have serveral community gardens that could use some work. So if you have a green thumb and like to get dirty, come and join us for a day out in the sun or rain.

We have different activities and games planned for each day including bingo and bridge. So if you are interested in just donating your time to just hangout, support and play games with our residents, this is the volunteer position for you!
