Description

The Pennsylvania Council of the Blind (PCB) is the commonwealth’s largest advocacy organization for people with vision loss. The aim of all of our efforts is to encourage and assist people in achieving their potential as valued members of society. PCB assistance, advocacy, and encouragement is carried out in such areas as community accessibility, transportation, education, and employment. PCB’s members (both blind and sighted) meet regularly at the local level to discuss current issues affecting the visually impaired community and develop strategies for overcoming them. Some of the PCB's specific advocacy efforts have included promoting Braille literacy, sponsoring employment seminars, pushing for dedicated funding of mass transit, speaking out for the right to a private vote using talking ballots, and urging city planners to install accessible pedestrian signals.
