VISTA VOLUNTEER
The State Fire Marshal ' s Office is accepting applications to serve as an AmeriCorps VISTA Volunteer for the Be Ready Utah Project. This assignment requires an initial one-year commitment, and work projects will include tasks that support the capacity of Utah Fire Corps and the fire service to respond to problems in the community that relate to Emergency Preparedness. Office space will be provided in the State Fire Marshal ' s Office, along with the necessary tools required for this service. To volunteer with VISTA is a commitment to national and community service. It is not considered paid employment. However, the VISTA program does provide a gross monthly subsistence allowance of approximately $800.00 paid on a bi-monthly basis. In addition, VISTAs can choose either the post-service stipend of $1,200 (accrued at the rate of $100.00 per month) or a $4,725.00 educational award. VISTA is a full-time, community service commitment. As such, VISTA volunteers cannot hold a full or part-time job in addition to their service.
Upon selection, the successful applicant will attend a four-day expense-paid VISTA Pre-Service Orientation training session in Provo, Utah, and receive a copy of the Work Plan and Assignment Description describing specific goals and objectives for their year of service. Relocation expenses may also be covered.
