The PlayGround Theatre is a repertory company dedicated to the production and presentation of classical and contemporary works that entertain, educate, and delight audiences of all ages. Our magical and intelligent productions foster intellectual, emotional, and social development while reflecting the cultural diversity of South Florida.
The PlayGround Theatre is building a unique institution for this country: a regional theatre which runs productions in rotation. The PlayGround currently has a repertoire of 7 productions, all performed by a resident company of actors. The repertoire includes plays for both young audiences and adults, all of which were designed by premiere Russian theatre artists. These productions range from a whimsical Brazilian fairy tale to a post-apocalyptic Soviet drama.
In the 2006-2007 Season, The PlayGround presented 114 performances in 6 venues throughout South Florida, with the majority of performances taking place at the company's home venue, a newly-renovated, 338-seat Art Deco theater. This coming season will be even busier with over 124 performances and the introduction of 2 new productions, Alice in Wonderland and The Clean House. The 2007-2008 Season will also focus on the expansion of the Education & Community Outreach Program through the introduction of Behind the Theatre Curtain Workshops and InSchool and AfterSchool programs, increased community outreach events, and continued ticket donations to underserved audiences.
