Mission Statement

"To create and provide education, employment and life enrichment opportunities regionally, nationally, and internationally for people who desire to improve the quality of their lives."

The Goodwill Community Foundation (GCF ) supports programs and services for people throughout eastern North Carolina by providing grants to Goodwill Industries of Eastern North Carolina (GIENC) and tax-exempt organizations in eastern North Carolina and nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) throughout the world. In addition, GCF provides facilities and Internet sites for employment, education, and life enrichment.

The programs supported by GCF continue to evolve to meet the changing needs of the people it serves. These programs include:

GCF Family Support Services

GCF Volunteer & Farm Services

GCF Accounting Services™

GCF funds the construction of facilities and programs to assist people with job opportunities, training, and life-skills preparation for adults and children with barriers to a quality life. It provide resources to GIENC and other organizations that enable them to provide programs, facilities, training, and life-skills opportunities for people who desire a better life.

GIENC is one of 182 autonomous Goodwill organizations in North America and 48 associate Goodwill organizations in 34 foreign countries. Its 50-year history is one of hard work, difficult struggles, and ultimately successes. Today, it is among the premier Goodwill Industries in the United States. Its stores are well located in convenient shopping areas and are among the most well-maintained in the country. Unlike the traditional model for Goodwill, store buildings and properties are owned by GIENC, which has proven to be a significant economic benefit to the organization.

The price of merchandise in the stores is among the lowest charged by any Goodwill Industries; however, the salaries and benefits store employees receive are the highest in the country. Nowhere else can a Goodwill employee work and live as well as GIENC's retail staff.

Due to the low cost of store merchandise and the superior wages received by store staff, its retail program is consistently one of the top three efficient programs among the 172 Goodwill organizations in the United States. More importantly, no Goodwill Industries serves more people each year than GIENC.
