Mission Statement

HEAL’s mission is to empower homeless youth and young adults with a strong focus on art and building entrepreneurial skills. By cultivating values of creativity, work ethic, and leadership in a safe, inclusive space, HEAL will provide opportunities for personal growth, as well as the tools needed to combat the hardships which coincide with being homeless to make meaningful and positive changes in their lives.

Description

HEAL is a 501c3 Public Benefit Charity that provides unique opportunities for creative self-expression and personal growth for individuals experiencing homelessness in San Diego. We believe in nurturing creativity to promote change and recovery.

Our Mobile Art Studio travels into several homeless communities to provide supplies and encourage expression in a judgement-free environment. Showing and selling the artwork is an inspiring and empowering experience for many of the artists, as well as an opportunity to earn an income.

One of my favorite volunteer opportunities. The art project was inventive, organized, fun for all ages and one that drew people in repeated times. I loved interacting with the crowd as well as the other volunteers and the director Alexandra. HEAL is an amazing organization designed and coordinated by Alexandra to bring to life the multi-faceted mediums of art to the homeless. Through her mobile art studio, which she sticks with all the necessary supplies, she goes to parks, shelters, facilities on a regular basis to lead these individuals in art projects that in so doing and completing and the take away of their creation, provide them with a sense of fulfillment and purpose and self-worth. I was very happy to support this initiative.
