Description

Food for the Hungry (FH) is a Christian organization serving the poor globally since 1971. We reflect the love of Christ in short-term emergency relief and long-term community developement to end world hungry.

FH focuses on helping children and suffering communities. We support churches, leaders and families in caring for children. As communities grow spiritually, economically, and in healthy practices, children grow up with hope for their future.

Our programs are designed with input from the poor. Our experts respectfully bring new practices in agriculture, health, child development and more to impoverished communities. The result is innovation and long-lasting relationships.

More than 90 percent of the 2,000 FH staff members are citizens of the 23 countries we serve around the world. We partner with the poor and respect their culture.

I feel the work environment could have been more positive and welcoming, which would have made the overall experience more enjoyable. Upon volunteering at Food For the Hungry, I often found that I was not greeted upon arrival. It made me feel unwelcome and unappreciated. Additionally, I felt as though I was left alone for most of the time I spent there, with no one checking in on me or offering guidance. This experience left me feeling lonely and undervalued, which made it difficult for me to continue volunteering with the same level of enthusiasm. The volunteer manager, Elizabeth Hill, was especially unwelcoming. I thought she would be there to help me out during the process, but she would constantly be on her phone; overall, she was not kind at all. I volunteered at this agency for 40 hours and would not go back because of how unwelcoming it felt.

I found this organization to be very volunteer friendly. They are so good with their short term mission teams and I love the long term staff that they have. They are well planned out trips and are very attentive to their teams.
