Children First's mission is to improve the lives of children, youth and their families through community collaborations, advocacy and programs. As Communities In Schools of Asheville, Children First is committed to champion the connection of needed community resources with schools and other sites to help young people successfully learn, stay in school, and prepare for life.

Description

Children First operates several direct service programs including the Project POWER/ AmeriCorps Program, and Communities In Schools which includes our Family Resource Center at Emma and Project MARCH (Make A Right Choice) homework clubs in low-income neighborhoods. Through these programs, we provide the following services to children, youth and their families: · Meeting basic needs through our food pantry, clothing closet, emergency assistance; · Parent education and support; · Conflict resolution training for youth; · Service learning opportunities; · Adult learning and job readiness opportunities; · Youth and adult leadership development; · Extensive information and referral; · Community development efforts to address neighborhood-wide issues In addition to direct services, Children First also provides advocacy and community education to raise awareness of, and develop sustainable solutions to, issues affecting children and families.
