Mission Statement

HARAMBEE TODAY seeks to develop and foster an intellectual community, where Africanists can share their perspectives and insights pertaining to African economics. Our goal is to gather and disseminate useful insights that inspire readers worldwide to collaborate and advocate for the creation of a level playing field for Africans in local and global markets.

The concept for HARAMBEE TODAY originated from members of the African Student Union on the Auraria Campus in Denver, Colorado. ASU members agreed to create a movement that would address economic inequities in Africa, but that undertaking meant dealing with the misconceptions and ignorance about Africa, and how it became the region with the poorest population. Debunking myths that have long dominated Africa’s identity would require a platform for dialogue and education.

HARAMBEE TODAY is that platform. Harambee is Swahili for "all pull together." In Kenya, when a community member is in need of resources, "harambee" is the expression used to gather the community into providing the necessary resources.
