Mission Statement
The National Yiddish Theatre - Folksbiene’s (NYTF) mission is to sustain Jewish culture through the arts. By dramatizing the Jewish experience and educating future artists and audiences, NYTF intends to help strengthen Jewish identity in each generation. Now celebrating its Centennial year, this 501 (c) (3) theatre company continues to build a comprehensive series of programs for audiences of all ages and backgrounds with an interest in Jewish arts and culture. Each season the company presents more than 100 performances and programs, which includes mainstage productions, free concert readings on college campuses, performances at senior and community centers, cultural workshops, and special events.
Description
The first annual International Jewish Performing Arts Festival is an historic event celebrating the extraordinary contribution and impact of Jewish culture on the world.
For the first time in America, theater companies, musicians, performers, filmmakers, writers and scholars from five continents will converge in New York City June 14-21, 2015 to showcase the breadth of Jewish inspired work being produced around the world today. As New York City’s first multi-platform international festival of Jewish-themed performance, this Festival will attract thousands of diverse local, national and international audiences, as well as press and cultural producers from around the globe.
The Festival, produced by the National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene, the longest continually producing and performing Yiddish theatre in the world, is the culmination of NYTF’s Centennial Season (which will present a series of compelling events--including Itzhak Perlman at Carnegie Hall). Folksbiene serves the world community as an affirmation that, at 100 years strong, our existence, our message and our growth advances the preservation and continuity of our great rich culture--and our culture, alive and well, serves as the best form of ammunition in the Jewish people’s fight for survival.
