Mission Statement

Founded in 1958, East Harlem Tutorial Program (EHTP) prepares students with the academic skills, strength of character, and emotional well-being to excel in high school and college, to lead in their communities, and to realize their best possible selves. EHTP operates after-school programming that provides academic enrichment, college-readiness resources, and social-emotional support for students in grades K through college. In 2011, EHTP expanded its services by opening a K-12 public charter school, East Harlem Scholars Academy. Due to the success of Scholars Academy and the growing demand for high-quality public education options in East Harlem, Scholars Academy II opened in 2013. EHTP is growing rapidly and will serve 15% of public school students in East Harlem by 2020. Description

East Harlem Tutorial Program (EHTP) prepares students with the academic skills, strength of character and emotional well-being to excel in high school and college, to lead in their communities and to realize their best possible selves. As a vital education center in East Harlem, EHTP operates out-of-school time programming that provides academic enrichment, college-ready resources and social-emotional support for students in grades K-12 and operates two public charter schools: East Harlem Scholars Academies. EHTP would not be the organization that we are today without the help and support from our amazing volunteers. Volunteers empower our scholars, prepare them for academic success, support their social enrichment, and help them gain the confidence they will need to succeed in college and in life.
