Mission Statement

We are a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit foundation created to provide support and education to the Melanoma community, inform the public on the prevention of Melanoma and promote sun safe habits. Also to financially assist melanoma patients and their families with the intense financial burden caused by a cancer diagnosis.

Description

T he Melanoma Support and Education Foundation was formed on December 3, 2003 by Staci L. Vazquez. Staci was diagnosed September 6, 2003 with Malignant Melanoma on her back. After her diagnoses she became aware of the need for local Melanoma specific support groups. Although there are many organizations geared toward cancer research, the support organizations for Melanoma are few and far between. Staci decided to form a local support group in her area, but not having any experience in forming the group she looked for organizations to help and was not able to find much information. Thus, she formed a foundation geared towards helping start up and administer Melanoma Support Groups.

Having three young children of her own, Staci also has acknowledged the importance of educating parents of young children and teens on prevention of Melanoma by promoting sun safe habits. The foundation does this through various methods such as the Sunwise School Program and community events. Additionally, the foundation speaks to the public about the dangers of the sun at schools, health fairs and any other place in which we can reach the public.

Would you recommend Melanoma Support & Education Foundation?

Sadly, I set up and raised about $75,000 for this Foundation by organizing a running club and signed up to do the Disney Marathon. The race was in Jan. and in Dec. I started suspecting something was not right . Bottom Line the President refused to give me an accounting of the money we raised. In Jan. after the run, when she said she had the accounting in Disney she didn't . I have reason to believe this money was not used for the charity. IF YOU DON'T ACCOUNT... WHAT ARE YOU HIDING. Be very careful when you donate to a charity ....... ask to see financial and if they won't share them, then run AWAY
