Mission Statement

The Genesee County Youth Bureau promotes positive youth development and youth participation by developing local strategies that meet the needs of young people, helping to plan and coordinate services for youth, assessing youth needs, providing funding to youth service agencies and advocating for legislation, systems change and funding to assist the youth services system.

The Genesee County Youth Bureau, established in 1971, is a department of county government and is responsible to the Genesee County Legislature. The Youth Bureau administers population-based state aid allocated to the County by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services. This funding is awarded annually to municipalities and non-profit agencies that provided services to youth ages 0 - 21 in Genesee County. The Youth Bureau also provides direct services and leadership opportunities for youth through several grant-funded initiatives, including AmeriCorps, Reality Check, Youth Court and Countywide SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions).
