Purpose: The La Senora Research Center, located on the 1839 Mexican Land Grant - Rancho Boca de Santa Monica, has as its primary focus California's Rancho Era dating from 1750's to early 1900's.
We provide an overview of the California Rancho history under Spain, Mexico and the U.S. then narrow into the context of this Rancho's surrounding communities (currently known as Santa Monica, Pacific Palisades,Malibu and Topanga)From 1767 - 1930 we address the cultural influences of the areas broader geographical environments. In 1929 our research narrows to the history of the Hacienda de Jose Mojica (aka La Finca de Nuestra La Senora de Guadalupe) following the chain of its inhabitants, from Jose Mojica - through its colorful "Old Hollywood" owners..
La Senora's educational purposes are to
Actively promote knowledge of the existence of the Rancho Era History.
Make presentations to educational institutions, both public and private, to encourage the teaching at the high school and college level of this history
Provide lecture and media space for educational and non-profit events related to our historical purposesEngage the neighborhood in which the Institute is located in historic immersion. Hold events for neighbors geared to building their interest in the history and preservation of historical components of their surroundings.
