Mission Statement

Reach Out and Read Kansas City makes literacy promotion a standard part of pediatric care so that children grow up with books and enter school ready to read.

Reach Out and Read Kansas City is a pediatric early literacy program serving Kansas City's most vulnerable children. Our program partners with pediatric doctors to make free books available for children in lower-income communities at every well-child visit from birth to five years of age. Reach Out & Read clinic doctors and nurses are trained to advise parents about the importance of reading aloud. By building on the unique relationship between parents and medical providers, Reach Out and Read helps families and communities encourage early literacy skills so children enter school prepared for success.

This is an easy and fun way to give back to the community.

I helped them for almost a year and I stoped because I moved to Florida, but it is just lovely to see how the children appreciate what you are doing for them and how their parents are grateful for what you do for them. Laura and the team at ROR in KU are so nice! If you have a couple of hours a month just do it, you would love it.

I just went through their training. I wanted to find something that involves books and reading and helps kids. This seems perfect.

I've emailed this organization twice and not heard anything from them.
