Description

Appalachia Habitat for Humanity is an ecumenical housing organization that builds and repairs homes for low and very-low income families in Scott and Morgan Counties, Tennessee. It was created in 1978 to build decent, affordable housing for people who could not finance housing any other way. As the second oldest Habitat affiliate in the world, it has continued in its solid commitment to affordable housing opportunities for three decades. Through the years Appalachia HFH has completed 158 new homes, eleven acquisition rehabs and 300+ repairs. The cost of land, building materials and supervisory labor is paid back to Habitat through a 20-30 year, no-interest mortgage. The average cost of a home is $65,000 making the homeowner's monthly payments approximately $250, including the property tax and insurance escrow.
