Mission Statement

Ensemble San Francisco is a society of musicians committed to changing the face of chamber music through innovative performances of the highest caliber. It aims to:

  • Present dynamic classical concerts featuring varied instrumental combinations
  • Develop a new audience base for chamber music through unconventional programming, venues, and collaborations
  • Present pro bono outreach performances in schools, hospitals, and nursing homes
  • Commission new works
  • Explore the use of new technologies to educate and further connect with audiences

Description

"A hip, unstuffy, and malleable group of high-quality chamber musicians who are dedicated to fresh programming" raves the SF Classical Voice, "Ensemble San Francisco seems welcoming, warm, and well-positioned to expand not only its repertoire of high-quality performances, but also its circle of friendship."

In addition to its mainstage performances, Ensemble SF is very dedicated to bringing world class music to schools, hospitals, and nursing homes throughout the Bay Area. Every mainstage concert is paired with at least one outreach concert, and the ESF musicians generously donate their time to help share their love of chamber music.

Ensemble San Francisco was founded in early 2013 by pianist Christine McLeavey Payne and clarinetist Roman Fukshansky, and draws its musicians from the SF Symphony, Ballet, and Opera orchestras and beyond.
