Grand St. Settlement expands opportunities for low-income families and individuals by providing culturally relevant services that support community-building, advocacy, self-determination and an enriched quality of life.
Since its founding in 1916, Grand St. Settlement has offered a continuum of innovative programs ranging from early childhood and youth development to community support for adults and seniors.
The Cornerstone program, located in the Bushwick-Hylan NYCHA Houses, provides engaging structured activities year-round for youth ages 5-21. Cornerstone helps participants acquire the skills and attitudes they need to graduate from high school, succeed in their chosen career, and give back to the community. The program is focused around a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) theme for younger youth, and an Entrepreneurship theme for older youth.Youth activities include: literacy and academic assistance, teen pregnancy prevention program, homework help, dance, college and career prep workshops, a young men's and young women's discussion group, chess, basketball, mentoring, photography, team-building activities, and computer lab.
