Mission Statement

The Hawaii Commandery is organized as a Veterans Association operated exclusively for charitable and educational purposes in service to the Active-Duty, Retired, Veterans, and Cadet/Midshipman military communities, and to the Civic Community of the State of Hawaii. The Seven Purposes of the Military Order of Foreign Wars are: Honor and perpetuate the names of brave and loyal men and women. Keep in mind the memory of their martial deeds and the victories which they helped gain. Foster the cultivation of military and naval science. Bear true allegiance to the United States of America, based upon a paramount respect for, and fidelity to, the National Constitution and laws. Foster and encourage the study of American history and particularly of American military history, to the end that the memory of brave men and women may freely be enshrined and that we and our children may learn from the past to formulate sound policies for the present and future.

Description

1. Honoring Veterans. The Commandery honors those who have served our Country in the uniform of the military services. This is primarily accomplished by supporting Memorial Day and Veterans Day observances at the National Cemetery of the Pacific and the Hawaii State Veterans’ Cemetery (HSVC). The Commandery is now focused on the Vietnam Veterans with the commencement of the 50 th Commemoration of that War. The Commandery was designated by the DoD 50th Commemoration of the Vietnam War Committee as a Commemorative Partner organization and was the first Veterans Organization in Hawaii to receive this designation.

2. Supporting ROTC/JROTC/CAP Cadet programs. The Commandery supports and encourages the future leaders of our nation who are now developing their leadership skills in the Cadet programs of ROTC, JROTC, and the Civil Air Patrol (CAP). The Commandery awards medals, ribbons, and certificates in recognition of superior academic performance and demonstrated leadership potential.

3. Support to Active and Reserve Component Military. The Commandery looks for ways to support the AC/RC military within current capabilities and resources.
