Mission Statement

OneGenAway Is a non-religious 501c3 that was founded in 2010 by Chris Whitney. Chris and his wife, Elaine have a desire to end hunger in Middle Tennessee.

OneGenAway raises money to purchase groceries in massive amounts at discounted rates. At each OneGenAway food distribution, we gather volunteers, the 18 wheelers drop off the food on pallets and the group of volunteers separate the quantities of food into grocery bags per family. When all the food is finished being bagged, we then station volunteers at different tables. Some volunteers help recipients push grocery carts through a line and pick up each variety of food while going down the line of tables. The volunteer "cart pushers" then assist the recipient to their car to unload the groceries. The recipients usually end up with about one to two weeks worth of groceries. OneGenAway is different than most pantries. The recipients must only be in need of the food to qualify. The food distribution days are usually on Saturdays from 8am- about 12noon. Locations vary.

This is truly a life-changing organization. If you are interested in being boots on the ground in eradicating poverty, starting where we live in Middle TN then this is where you should start! 96% of donations go directly to food and distribution; $1 donated equals $16 of retail food. Go load some groceries and take a moment to hug the elderly man who has to chose between medication or food. Or encourage the single mother who is working full time at minimum wage and still struggles to keep food on the table for her kids. Or honor the veteran who sacrificed so much for you to come back to a society that doesn't give him/her the respect and dignity they are due. You can be the difference for someone. You will not leave the same person you came, I promise!
