Mission Statement

To provide waste reduction and recycling assistance for the benefit of business and the environment.

Description

WasteCap operates in three main areas. Wastecap started as a non-profit centered on assisting commercial construction & demolition projects with recycling assistance. Through this, WasteCap works to save organizations money while increasing recycling rates and divert as much materials as possible from landfills.

The Second area of service, deconstruction, works to create jobs while continuing the mission of reducing waste in landfills. WasteCap currently partners with job training organizations to employ and train underemployed and unemployed members of the Milwaukee’s inner city on all of its deconstruction projects. The deconstruction projects themselves are a more sustainable alternative to traditional demolition. They essentially are the reverse of building a house and WasteCap does this for both private parties and houses set to be razed by the city. Doing deconstruction allows materials to be salvaged and can yield much higher recycling rates.

The third main focus area of WasteCap’s work is salvaging. Not only does WasteCap salvage as many materials as possible from the deconstruction projects but they also have salvaging access to all homes in the city of Milwaukee set to be demolished. These salvaged materials are then sold in bulk to architects or other organizations or through WasteCap’s warehouse. This helps to preserve historical architectural and building materials and at the same time keeps them from landfills or recycling facilities.
