Mission Statement

Chartered by the State of California in 1990, Keep California Beautiful (KCB) is a nonprofit environmental education organization that promotes individual responsibility for California's environment. Each year KCB mobilizes tens of thousands of volunteers in conducting cleanup, recycling and beautification projects across the state. However, ridding our state of litter and trash through community cleanups is secondary to our overall commitment of changing behaviors so as to prevent litter in the first place. KCB believes that behaviors - like littering - can be changed and that recycling and waste minimization is a choice that people should embrace all of which has been proven to increase the economic health and safety of our communities.

Description

Through our Proud Community program, KCB engages other California cities to promote litter prevention in their communities. KCB provides resources, education tools, and campaign materials designed to support local municipalities in implementing litter prevention strategies, volunteer recruitment and training, community outreach, and information sharing. KCB facilitates and inspires the ability for businesses, citizens and governments to work together.

Thanks to our Corporate Sponsors and Governmental Partners, KCB has been able to stretch scarce dollars to return $11 in measurable benefits to the state for every $1 invested in KCB by both our public and private sectors.

Our Goals

  • Achieve a litter free California.
  • Develop KCB into the most effective volunteer based organization in California.
  • Partner with every city in California to become a KCB Proud Community.
  • Make KCB a household name in California.
