Mission Statement

Emergent Ground is a social justice art and design initiative.

We envision youth and communities of color at the forefront of building a more socially‐just, peaceful, and ecologically‐viable world.

We facilitate a creative process where disenfranchised youth and communities have access to the skills, resources, and opportunities to design new socially just realities and be the architects of the urban environment.

Description

Our interdisciplinary art and design curriculum is primarily for youth, ages 14‐24, from disenfranchised communities. Our programs provide participants with the design skills and resources to cultivate and actualize their visions for positive transformation in their surroundings and the greater urban context.

Participants work hands-on ‐ both in the studio and in the landscape ‐ drawing, mapping, and 3d modelling. We engage in the iterative process of making, thinking critically, and re‐making to materialize and visually communicate unique ideas and visions for the urban environment.
