Mission Statement
The Hearing Loss Association of America - Sarasota Chapter (HLAA-Sarasota) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and the local chapter of the Hearing Loss Association of America , which is the nation’s foremost membership organization. in promoting hearing loss advocacy, education/information and support. Our mission is to empower people with hearing loss to lead more active lives in the community by promoting hearing loss advocacy, education/information and support to the over 145,000 people with hearing loss in our community.

Objectives of HLAA-Sarasota/Manatee
Education/Information
HLAA-Sarasota/Manatee has been active in promoting better access in the community for people with hearing loss, most notably; advocating for closed captioned movies, for loop systems in houses of worship, and live theater venues, for captioning of television news and emergency announcements, and captioning of City Commission meetings. HLAA-Sarasota/Manatee participates in numerous OutReach events throughout Sarasota/Manatee counties.
Support Through its monthly meetings and social activities held throughout the year. HLAA-Sarasota/Manatee currently has 160+ active members and an additional 1,200 people who receive notifications of events. HLAA-Sarasota/Manatee publishes an electronic newsletter called "Listen Up". The chapter has a website (www.hlas.org), a Facebook page, and a Twitter account.HLAA-Sarasota/Manatee represents a far wider number of people than its membership numbers reveal. The Center for Disease Control states that 16.1% of the US population has hearing loss, which translates to 145,000 people in Sarasota and Manatee County. HLAA-Sarasota has its work cut out and looks forward to the continued growth of the chapter as it tackles the most pressing challenges of hearing loss.
