Mission Statement: Assistance League of Pasadena is a nonprofitvolunteer organization dedicated to philanthropic programs that serve the needs of the community.

Description

ASSISTANCE LEAGUE......is a nonprofit organization whose volunteer members administer and control philanthropic projects that serve specific needs of surrounding communities. Funds raised by direct donations, dues, grants, and special events are returned to the community through programs to children and seniors. ASSISTANCE LEAGUE of Pasadena was founded in 1936. In 1941, ASSISTANCE LEAGUE of Pasadena was chartered becoming the sixth chapter of NATIONAL ASSISTANCE LEAGUE, a nonprofit, nonpolitical, nonsectarian organization founded in the West which recognizes the potential of volunteers of all ages helping those less fortunate to a better, more meaningful life. ASSISTANCE LEAGUE ASSULT SURVIVOR KITS (ASK)......provides a change of clothing and personal care items to victims of sexual assault. Kits are distributed through the San Gabriel Valley Medical Center and the Los Angeles County - USC Medical Center. Since its inception in 1995, this program has grown to serve over 200 sexual assault victims a year. ASSISTANCE LEAGUE'S CRAFT FAIR GIFT SHOP.....opened in 1955 as a consignment shop for showcasing handmade items. Everything in the shop is hand made by men and women age 55 and above. The shop, which has over 200 exhibitors, is located at 820 East California Blvd. It is open Wednesday through Saturday from 11 am to 4 pm. Phone - 626-795-4991. There is convenient free parking available behind the shop off of Hudson. ASSISTANCE LEAGUE'S OPERATION SCHOOL BELL.....provides clothing for school children in need. Through referrals from principals, counselors and community assistants in the Pasadena Unifies School District, children are provided with uniforms, shoes, personal care items and a book. In the past year, over 850 children have been outfitted. Since 1990, over 9,000 Pasadena Unified School District children have been served. This project helps build self-esteem as well as promotes regular school attendance. More than 100 Assistance League chapters in the United States help underserved children through Operation School Bell. ASSISTANCE LEAGUE'S TREASURE FAIR THRIFT SHOP.... provides funding for all chapter activities. It is staffed by volunteer members and is stocked totally with donated clothing and merchandise. (Contributions from the community are tax deductible and gratefully accepted.) Located at 3239 East Foothill Blvd. - Pasadena, the shop is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 am to 3 pm. It's a hands-on organization that helps the local community's children-in-need, seniors, and victims of assault, abuse and/or neglect. They have an awesome thrift shop and gift shop where members can volunteer their time. The members are great and really work well together. For a small membership they pack a big punch!
