Wright on the Park, Inc.

Description

Formed in 2005 by a group of local citizens, Wright on the Park (WOTP) was established to undertake the restoration of the City National Bank and Park Inn hotel. Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1910, the building was significantly deteriorated and in need of rescuing. After determining the condition of the building and cost of repairs, WOTP initiated a fundraising campaign to help pay for the monumental project. Over the next few years, funding was secured and the process of restoring the hotel began. The restoration was completed in the fall of 2011 and the building (which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places) opened as The Historic Park Inn Hotel, a 27-room boutique hotel and conference/meeting center. Wright on the Park's current objectives are to preserve and maintain the hotel so it may remain an economic, aesthetic and cultural asset of downtown Mason City, and to provide continuing education to the public about the building's place in the context of architectural history. In order to better serve the public, Wright on the Park will be opening its new headquarters at the end of May 2015. The headquarters will house the WOTP office, a retail store, reading area, permanent and temporary exhibits, and an educational programming space.
