Mission Statement

OUR MISSION.

The YES Foundation is a volunteer organization that seeks to create opportunities for the development of youth into self-sufficient adults by providing programs and support service in the areas of Employment, Education, and Enrichment.

OUR HISTORY.

The YES Foundation is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization, which was founded in 1992 to help high school youth identify their skills, prepare for job interviews and broaden their horizons by locating jobs throughout the metropolitan Detroit area. Since then, we have expanded to include literacy programs in grades K-4, and parental involvement activities. The YES Foundation's programs are delivered by volunteers with the financial and in-kind support of individuals, corporations, and foundations.

Description

OUR PARTNERS.

YES programs involve families and communities. They support academic and social development in an environmental context. Children, youth, parents, teachers, community organizations, local employers, volunteers and schools all benefit from their involvement and participation in our programs.

OUR VOLUNTEERS.

Each year, YES volunteers deliver programs and services to more than 1,500 children and youth in the metropolitan Detroit area. Our volunteers are caring, committed adults who enjoy sharing their time and talent. They also receive many benefits, including:

  • Face-to-face involvement with young people
  • Direct impact and enhancement of children's lives
  • Opportunity for personal growth
  • Recognition for commitment and service.

OUR PROGRAMS AND SERVICES.

Language is essential to learning; and reading, as a specialized form of language, is not only a basic skill, it is an indispensable tool for critical and creative thinking. Reading and reading comprehension are fundamental to success in school, the workforce, the community and the world. All YES programs supplement the traditional classroom experience by using literacy-based interventions to help shape the development of children and youth.
