Citizens who live in the region, and those attracted from a distance, should be actively engaged in its stewardship. Education and outreach will empower people to protect resources and enjoy them more, and special natural conditions will be preserved for future generations.

HOW DO WE DO IT?

We:

  • train volunteers to monitor, stabilize, restore, and respect resources;
  • engage visitors and educate the public;
  • provide interpretive tours, events, broadcasts, websites, and publications;
  • work with diverse interests, including gateway communities, recreation groups, land owners, public agencies, and other stakeholders.

The Friends of Black Rock High Rock have a lot of fun educating the public on responsible use of the wonderful resources in the region and doing service projects. This years' Rendezvous was the greatest kickoff to the season. I highly recommend that everyone who loves this area gets involved by volunteering to help with at least one project to check it out!

Nevada's Black Rock Desert is a special place. With increased visitation, it's important that visitors come to the area prepared. There are important safety, historical and archaeological concerns within the area that users should be aware of. FBRHR takes the time to educate the public providing outreach, information and service work in the area. If you love the Black Rock and want to see it preserved for future generations, this is a great organization to get involved with.

The Friends of Black Rock Rendezvous this year was so inspiring. This was my first year there and was very impressed with the land and all the participating groups. I loved listening to the educational presentations in the middle of the desert, then heading out to do tours of the region and conservation projects all while group camping, listening to great music, sharing pot luck meals and simply being awed by this particular conservation area. This was a great way to meet new people, everyone was amazingly friendly and giving. I'll definitely be there next year and look forward to finding out more about this groups particular stewardship projects. You can count me in!

If you want to do good work for the environment outside in some of the most awesome country you'll ever see, volunteering for Friends of Black Rock is for you. You will be protecting this land to keep it awesome for generations to come. Or you can volunteer to educate others at their booth at community events. You'll work with fun, bright, active like-minded people. It'll be a whole experience.
