Description

Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit grassroots faith-based community organization that seeks to eliminate homelessness all over the world. Habitat for Humanity West Hawaii was founded in 2002. Our service area spans the west side of Hawaii, from Kawaihae to South Point.

Habitat for Humanity West Hawaii builds "simple and decent" homes for families making between 40-70% of the median income for West Hawaii. We select homeowners on the basis of level of need, access to land, willingness to partner, and the ability to repay the loan. Our affiliate has placed a priority on families with young children and the elderly living in unsafe and unsanitary conditions.

Habitat for Humanity West Hawaii is currently building for families who own or lease their own land but cannot afford to build or renovate their home. Habitat partner families provide over 300 hours of sweat equity to help build their home.
