Mission Statement

To provide optimum orthopedic care and improve quality of life in Ghana, Ethiopia, and other countries.

Through an international network of over 250 volunteers, FOCOS sends teams of medical professionals to Africa and parts of the Caribbean to provide comprehensive, orthopedic care to patients in need. The opening of the FOCOS Orthopedic Hospital in 2012 made Ghana, West Africa, the hub for our work. FOCOS sends teams of 30-40 volunteers to Ghana four times each year to conduct complex spine and joint replacement surgeries. Smaller teams of volunteers often travel to other parts of Africa, such as Sierra Leone and Ethiopia, and the Caribbean, including Jamaica and Barbados.

The FOCOS Hospital in a state of the art, full-service facility that is fully equipped with an out-patient clinic, radiology and laboratory centers, physiotherapy center, two operating room, 50-bed capacity ward, and administrative offices. The growing staff of more than 150 medical professionals work alongside FOCOS volunteers to promote education and professional development.

FOCOS (The Foundation of Orthopedics and Complex Spine) is a non-profit organization founded in 1998 by Dr. Oheneba Boachie-Adjei. The mission of FOCOS is to provide optimum orthopedic care and improve quality of life in Ghana, Ethiopia, and other countries.
