Rural and urban community health clinics are the core source of care for uninsured and underinsured individuals, Medicaid recipients, and people of all ages. Patients often suffer from poorly-treated chronic illnesses, contributing to avoidable mortality, morbidity, and health care costs.
Patients need physician specialists -- but clinics are often understaffed. Moreover, it's predicted that the United States will be short 130,000 physicians by 2025.
The MAVEN Project is a nonprofit organization that improves access to quality healthcare for underserved populations by linking its corps of expert volunteer physicians to clinics and organizations in need.
