Mission Statement
We improve access to healthcare for underserved populations by linking our corps of expert volunteer physicians to clinics and organizations in need.
Description
Rural and urban community health clinics are the core source of care for uninsured and underinsured individuals, Medicaid recipients, and people of all ages. Patients often suffer from poorly-treated chronic illnesses, contributing to avoidable mortality, morbidity, and health care costs.
Patients need physician specialists -- but clinics are often understaffed. Moreover, it's predicted that the United States will be short 130,000 physicians by 2025.
The MAVEN Project is a nonprofit organization that improves access to quality healthcare for underserved populations by linking its corps of expert volunteer physicians to clinics and organizations in need. It recruits retired, semi-retired, and other interested physicians through medical school alumni associations to volunteer their expertise, utilizing telehealth technology to link volunteers to clinics and community health centers.
