Mission Statement

Kids-Net Los Angeles, Inc. seeks to enrich the lives of many children under the purview of the Department of Children and Family Services for dependency care in Los Angeles County. We bring people of conscience and faith together to engage in meaningful work in an all-volunteer corps and to experience the pride and warmth of community where real human need persists.

Description

Who We Are

Kids-Net Los Angeles, Inc. is comprised of a diverse group of career professionals in the city; creative and energetic people who want to serve an important purpose. We are a 100% volunteer corps (no paid staff) committed to creating and delivering great programs that build character, promote positive self-image, and encourage healthy relationships. As you know, many kids "in the system" have borne the pain of abandonment, neglect and/or abuse, and scars remain in their hearts and minds. With all we’ve got, we strive to enlarge their capacities for resilience. Among the measures of our success are fostered youth who have grown-up to volunteer with us and even to lead.

What We Do

Every year since 2000, we have produced a week-long summer camp for scores of kids ages 6-11, delivering an unforgettable all-expenses-paid, first-class sleep-away camp with non-stop participatory activities that enhance kids’ sense of self and safety. Virtually everyone finds being up above the city "in God’s country" to be The Best Week of the Year.

Starting in 2011, we rolled out our "Saturday Academy" program, a club for camp grads (those who have gone through our flagship program) ages 12-15, taking urban adventures together once each month to sites all over town--from biking on beach trails to hiking in Griffith Park, visiting historic LA sites, special interest sites and science museums, and more--not just for the fun or the facts, but for the confidence of knowing and negotiating our city.
