Founded in 1978, we provide workshops, conferences and a speaker's bureau offering information on dyslexia. Our website receives nearly 20,000 visitors annually and we receive over 200 email and phone inquiries per month from teachers and parents seeking information about issues related to the learning disability known as dyslexia. We offer referral to diagnosticians and tutors, as well as literature regarding effective remediation techniques, advocacy, reading resources and social-emotional issues. We coordinate study groups, a pen-pal program and other services for educators, parents, and individuals with dyslexia. It is estimated that up to 15% of the population is dyslexic, making it likely that up to 2 million residents in Illinois struggle with this learning difference.
