The mission of Capital Hospice is to improve care for those facing life-limiting illness through direct support of patients and their families, public education and public advocacy.
Our vision is to become a center of excellence in end-of-life-care and services to those facing loss. This vision is built upon our expertise in hospice and palliative care, as well as strong community support and leadership. We assist people during life transitions and traumatic events, especially in dying. We provide assistance to all that need it, regardless of their ability to pay. We believe that care of those with advanced illness can and should be improved locally, regionally and nationally.
Description
Capital Hospice has provided expert end-of-life care in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area (Prince George's County, Northern Virginia, Washington, DC)since 1977. As one of the oldest, largest, and most experienced hospice care programs in the United States, we have served more than 45,000 patients and loved ones in this community.
Capital Hospice is not a place; it is a comprehensive set of services that comes to the patient. Hospice services are provided in the patient's home setting, whether that is a private residence, apartment, long-term care facility, assisted living or nursing home.
--We are a nationally recognized program.
--We have an "open door" policy, offering end-of-life care to anyone who needs it, regardless of financial circumstances.
--We offer a comprehensive bereavement program to our hospice families and grief and loss services to the community.
--We operate an annual, free weekend summer camp experience open to anyone in the metropolitan area coping with grief.
--We are fully committed to providing volunteers with a thorough orientation and opportunities for ongoing education and professional development.
