Mission Statement

Lowndes County Imagination Library was created in February 2014 in order to introduce a proven literacy program to Lowndes County, Mississippi. The program provides a free, quality book each month to children under age 5. These books include literacy tips for parents as well as book-specific activities to engage children as they read. The goal of Lowndes County IL is to strengthen early literacy skills by increasing pre-kindergarten readiness through books and reading.

Description

Lowndes County Imagination Library aims to not only distribute free books to children in Lowndes County, but to also promote a passion for reading and books from a young age. This program frequently sends volunteers into the community to read at daycares, Head Starts, and pre-k and kindergarten classrooms. Lowndes County IL sets up booths at local events to promote the program and engage children and families in various activities. This program also regularly assists with local children's programs in order to establish a relationship with Lowndes County families.
