Description

We are a growing non-profit organization comprised of people who live and work in the Hillsboro-Deering area and see the value in out-of-school programs that provide safe, supervised and educational enrichment opportunities for children, and that help involve families in the community. Those who have been involved with Family Youth Investment include school-based before and afterschool programs, the town run teen drop-in center, Hillsboro Parks and Recreation, Hillsboro Area Athletic Association, Hillsboro-Deering school board, local churches, Girl Scouts, SAU #34, Fuller Public Library, Hillsboro Adult Education, The Deering Center, Hillsboro-Deering Family Health, Hillcat Law Enforcement Explorers, Junior Historical Society, Youth Strings Program, parents and other individual community members and organizations.

Originally known as the Community Vision Team (CVT), we began in June 2004 as an effort to bring together three afterschool programs with other programs, organizations, and agencies focused on meeting the needs of Hillsboro-Deering children, youth, and families. Initially comprised of professionals who were primarily commuters to Hillsboro, Family Youth Investment is now overseen by a community-based board of directors. Since our inception we have been successful in bringing individuals and organizations together, have been a key partner in securing 4 important grants, were selected as a Community Economic Development partner for a graduate project at SNHU, and are an approved A*VISTA work site. At its inception the CVT was represented by 8 programs; we have now joined with over 30 others, as well as with strong local leaders. The goal is to become a community-driven network of partners whose combined knowledge, expertise and skills can maximize the use of available resources for the benefit of the community.
