Mission Statement
Leonardo's Basement provides girls and boys ages 6-17 the freedom to discover, create and invent. Our inviting workshop is loaded with tools and novel building materials. We set the stage for student achievement, with students themselves determining the process and products from which they learn and succeed, supported by knowledgeable facilitators. The name, Leonardo's Basement purposefully invokes the spirit of our intent. Leonardo daVinci remains the best representation of a curious and observing mind relating the disciplines of art, science and technology. We are about discovery and experimentation and the informal atmosphere and creative work associated with heading down to the basement to tinker.
Description
Supervised but kid directed, design and build projects give enormous discretion and power to children. We value process over product and expect that children will take risks, make mistakes and forge on with confident enthusiasm.
Kids, teens and families come to Leonardo's Basement for: After school classes, Summer classes, LEGO Robotics and many other programs. We also take our programs to schools, parks, community centers and public events.
Leonardo's Basement also organizes the annual Minneapolis/St. Paul Mini Maker Faire at the MN State Fairgrounds each May.
