Mission Statement

The Mission of the City of Lakes Nordic Ski Foundation is to promote and support nordic skiing in the Minneapolis area- especially among inner-city youth.

Description

The City of Lakes Loppet is a cross country ski event featuring the beautiful lakes and trails of Minneapolis and Wirth park. Please consider volunteering for this wonderful winter event. The Loppet has events and activites for skiers of all ages and abilities. There is a skijoring Loppet for skiers and their dogs. Kids events for toddlers through high schoolers and races for all abilities. One of the highlights of the weekend is the Luminary Loppet, a candlelit night ski/snowshoe on Lake of the Isles. This is the tenth year of the City of Lakes Loppet. It is always held the first weekend in February. This year is February 4-5, 2012. We expect about 10,000 skiers in participate in the various events. You do not need to be a nordic skier to volunteer, there are myriad opportunities both inside and out. You will have a great time volunteering for this event!

This is a very exciting volunteer opportunity! Volunteers will get the chance to whitness this traditional ski event first-hand, work with the skiiers, have lots of fun meeting new people and enjoying the beautiful Lake of the Isles. I have not volunteerd for this event but I have worked with many of the same event coordinators and I cannot say enough the level of organization and fun they always seem to produce. There will be something for everyone to do and enjoy! It's really a great way to spend just a few hours of the weekend (or more if you're as excited about the event as I am!).
