Mission Statement

The mission of Youth Advocate Program is to provide individuals that have been, are, or may be subject to compulsory care with the opportunity to develop, contribute, and be valued as assets so that communities can have safe, proven, effective, and economical alternatives to institutional placement.

Description

Tom Green County Advocate Programs is one of over 125 programs throuhgout the United States operated by Youth Advocate Programs Inc. YAP, Inc. is a private non-profit, human services agency established as an alternative to correctional institutions for juvenile offenders. Grounded in the belief that at-risk youth should reside in nurturing homes and supportive neighborhoods, YAP has successfully provided for the care and protection of may who would have otherwise been placed out of the home. Through the contract with Tom Green County Juvenile Probation Department, TGCAP will be able to reach many youth and families in the area. The advocacy model that we use is based on caring and trusting relationship developed between a supportive, trained and skilled adult advocate and the young person. The advocate assists in the development of and individualized service plan including the child/family team, referral sources, and any available community resources.
