Mission Statement

Mid-Atlantic Border Collie Rescue (formerly known as Kent County Border Collie Rescue) is a not-for-profit organization that is run primarily by volunteers. Fundamentally, Mid-Atlantic Border Collie Rescue is a haven for Border Collies and dogs of the Herding group that have been discarded, neglected, abandoned, or stray. Our goals are simple: MABCR exists to rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home Border Collies in need; to educate and prevent senseless over breeding and poor-quality breeding of Border Collies; and to provide education, information, and training support for people who already have, or wish to acquire a Border Collie as a companion. We strive to intimately know each of the dogs that pass through our rescue with a goal to understanding what they require to be successfully placed into a new home. Dogs that arrive neglected or with 'issues' receive special care and training to allow them to rehabilitate. Assessment of each dog determines if he or she can be placed into a pet home, or if an actual working dog home--involved in herding, goose removal, agility, tracking, or obedience, to name a few--is a better option. Each dog is then placed into a home that suits its individual energy level and 'job' requirements. MABCR currently serves Maryland, Delaware, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia. We strive to assist any Border Collie, or Border Collie owner regardless of specific geographic area or social/economic status, and often assist with counseling, intake, and placements outside of our 'coverage area'.
