Our mission is to equip adults of our community with the literacy skills necessary to function effectively--at home, at work, and in the society.

Description

This program matches tutors with adults who need help in basic literacy skills. Tutoring takes place at the literacy center on the Conejo Valley Adult School campus, although other venues agreed upon by tutor and student are fine.

Tutors work one-on-one with students for a minimum of two hours per week. Both student and tutor are provided with the textbooks and materials necessary for learning. Trained staff are on site to assist tutor and student in every way.

Tutors are given a free 6-hour training workshop before being matched with a student. Matches are based on mutual time availability as well as tutor/student preferences. There are no set times for tutoring to take place.

the satisfaction from a student who is enthusastic and eager makes the time spent fly by. It is so rewarding. I get more from each student I have had than they get from my instruction. The tools are very easy to use and the staff is extremely helpful.
