Pajama Program of Tennessee has been home here for about ten months, but we are growing. It didn't take long to realize children here have very real needs here just like in any city of America. Did you know that many children who come from low income families in Williamson and Davidson County and probably the county you live typically sleep in the clothes they wear during the day or even the week? Many of the children we help have been abused or abandoned and in many cases have never enjoyed the simple comfort of having a loving mother or father tuck them in at bedtime. Pajama Program of Tennessee believes every child should have a new pair of comfy pajamas to look forward to putting on before hopping into bed. And the icing on the cake, a nurturing book of their own to have read to them or to read by themselves. We have been blessed to have had some individuals as well as businesses begin to hear about Pajama Program and have had Pajama and Book Drives, so far to date we have received and given away about 1000 pairs. But this is just the beginning. We need to get the word out! It takes people like you who care about children to take the first step in making a difference in the bedtime experience for many children and teens in Middle Tennessee. There are many ways to collect pajamas, let your imagination soar! Children can collect new pajamas for our community in their classroom, club, sports team, dance class, church. It can be a fun time with prizes to those who collect the most pajamas or a special ice cream day. Ladies groups have had pajama parties where all the guest wear a pair of pajamas and bring a pair for a child. For refreshments they serve breakfast!
An office locally had a collection drive and posted flyers and put drop off boxes by the elevators in the building, this one helped 60 children receive a pair of new pajamas.
A nurse at Vanderbilt collected over 50 pair of new pajamas and books on the floor she works with her co workers!
We are currently needing pajamas for all ages for the winter months. Please consider making a difference on behalf on the children who are often times in our own backyard. Think about your own personal memory with your favorite pair of pjs and book. Then think about the children all over Middle Tennessee who do not know what it is like to have a new pair of cozy pajamas.
With your help we can change the memory of one child forever one pair of pjs at a time!
