The 2018 hurricane season has been extraordinarily active in parts of the U.S., with Hurricane Florence currently impacting millions in the Carolinas. As this natural disaster unfolds, the staff here at VolunteerMatch is doing its part to ensure that, if you are in an affected community, you are prepared and safe. Junior Achievement, is an organization that provides entrepreneurship, work-readiness and financial-literacy education to students.
JA - needs volunteers in every classroom in all 7 school districts in Brazoria County. Usually a 5-8 week program. Once a week for 5-8 weeks depending on grade level. We teach K-12th grade programs. All materials and training is provided.

Celebrity Waiter Event - Typically occurs in March. Companies, Political candidates, etc. purchase a table for $500.00. Decorate the table and have a celebrity serve their table. The Celebrity can be the plant manager, elected official or actual celebrity. Event features a contest on best themed & decorated table. Dinner, silent/live auction, and Cash bar. The event has been held at Riverside or Columbia Lakes in the past. Committee members would typically help with all planning, solicit table sponsors, live & silent auction items. Attend and help with auction and help guests checkout.
Who's Who Golf Classic - The Golf Classic is usually the first Friday of June. The past few years it has been held at the Wilderness. It is typically our largest fundraiser with a morning & afternoon flight. Lunch and light dinner. Committee would help solicit teams, hole sponsors, goody bag sponsors and contributors. They would also help with soliciting door prizes and silent auction items. The day of the event 40-50 volunteers are needed on the course, at check out, to help setup & clean up, etc.
Brazoria County Business Hall of Fame - The event is usually held in mid September. 4 laureates from throughout Brazoria County are chosen each year to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. The event features Dinner and a slide show. Hall of Fame recipients are inducted. A scholarship is presented to one senior in each of Brazoria County High Schools and Volunteer & teacher of the year is presented at the event. This committee has several sub committees. The Laureate selection committee-gains nominees and makes the selection as to who will be inducted. The Scholarship committee-actually reads essays and selects scholarship winners from each High School. The remainder of the members solicit companies and individuals for table, reception & event sponsorships and help with the days set-up and removal.
Bowl-a-thon - Typically takes place November-December time frame. At least one event in the North end (Alvin/Pearland area) and one in the south end (Clute/Angleton). Each team member is asked to get $50 in sponsorships. Can be companies or individuals. Those getting at least $50 go into a $500 drawing and are able to get gift cards if they get over $250 in sponsorships. Committee members solicit teams, lane sponsors and help get items for goody bags. They also come out and help register everyone at the beginning of the events and then sit back and enjoy the fun at the bowling alleys.
JA in a Day - These events are set up at participating campuses (Usually middle grades). We actually have volunteers in the classrooms of an entire grade level or school teaching the entire program in one day's time. All training and program materials are provided. Teams of two are recommended for each classroom. A great way to get your company name out to the public. Typically need at least 20 volunteers for 5-6 hours for the entire grade level.
