Mission Statement

Founded in 1990, the Women of Color Resource Center (WCRC) is headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area and promotes the political, economic, social and cultural well being of women and girls of color in the United States. Informed by a social justice perspective that takes into account the status of women internationally, WCRC is committed to organizing and educating women of color across lines of race, ethnicity, religion, nationality, class, sexual orientation, physical ability and age.

Description

WCRC's Peace and Solidarity Program raises the voices of women of color in opposition to war and militarism. War, militarism and state violence distort and destroy women's lives worldwide. Every woman in the US is affected. Every woman suffers from the massive deformation of the national budget - a budget that magically transforms our tax dollars into fabulous profits for defense contractors, but comes up short for education, childcare and healthcare.

WCRC's Economic Justice and Human Rights Program uniquely combines scholarly analysis and participatory research with coalition building, advocacy and leadership development.

Ongoing projects include the Welfare Rights Education and Advocacy Project (WREAP), which currently focuses on research and education strategies related to family cap policies, and the Welfare Radio Collaborative, a skills training and leadership development project for low-income women.
