The Humane Society of Morgan County is a non-profit, all volunteer organization dedicated to finding loving homes for unwanted and abandoned animals and to ending the problem of pet over-population through spay/neuter programs and education.
The Humane Society of Morgan County was founded in 1995 in response to a dire problem of pet overpopulation in our area. Since that time we have found loving homes for more than 4,000 formerly homelss dogs and cats. We rescue abandoned dogs and cats from area shelters and care for them in foster homes until a carefully screened premanent home can be found for them. While in our care, all animals are vaccinated, spayed or neutered, micro-chipped, heartworm tested (treated if needed) and are started on heartworm preventative.
In addition to our rescue and adoption program, the HSMC also provides financial assistance to families who cannot afford spay/neuter surgery for their pets. We also provide low cost vaccination clinics to the community, bring pet food to the pets of Meals on Wheels recipients, and provide humane education in the Morgan County schools. We also administer a "Crippled Critter" fund that allows us to take sick and injured animals out of the local shelters and get them the medical treatment they need to be able to find a loving home.
We currently do all of our work through a network of foster homes, but have begun plans to construct a shelter. Volunteers will be needed in all areas as we go after this long dreamed of goal.
