Mission Statement
The David Gordon Louis Daniel Foundation is named in memory of David Gordon Louis Daniel, who was killed in a vehicular accident at dusk on July 31, 2004. David Gordon, a Spring Hill student, was almost eight at the time of his death, and he was a very special child. The Foundation seeks to build on the qualities that made David so extraordinary - his remarkable intellectual abilities, his concern for others, his compassion, and his joie de vivre.
The goals of the Foundation are to: promote research into fostering literacy; research new treatments into fostering literacy; and research methods to engender in children a love of learning, empathy, and compassion.
Description
The Scholars Program
The Foundation is currently seeking to pilot a Scholars Program for promising children through which the Foundation would provide for long-term tutoring or instruction in creative interpretation and expression (writing or oration), mathematics (particularly as applied in science or physics), and music. Enrichment activities in the community (for example concerts or camps) will form an integral aspect of the program.
